From Grenoble, France to Palestine - in Solidarity

Dear Palestinian brothers and sisters, you may not have heard of Grenoble, a middle-sized city in the South-East of France. You need to know, however, that many of us stand here in solidarity with you, that we suffer when you do, that we held our tenth demonstration today and that we will not give up.

Peace and Justice - for Palestine

You will find below some pictures and information about the protest that has been going on in our city, in the South East of France.

Of course, all of the below is not much, if you compare with cities like London with their hundreds of thousands of protesters, and with the outrage and solidarity everywhere else on the planet. But I thought you really should know that protests and actions of all sorts are going on all over France, even though you won't hear about it in the international or even in the French news.

I thought you should know that we care, that we suffer when you do, that we are plenty, everywhere, and that our government does not represent us when it violates all at once the most basic international norms, our common humanity and the legacy of all those who died fighting for our country to progressively become a democracy. I want you to be aware that many among us have raised our voice in many different ways to ask for your children and yourselves to be protected, that we will keep doing so, that we will not give up.

This was today, on January 13th, during our 10th demonstration/gathering to call for an immediate cease-fire and for freedom. We were close to 2,000 people. For Grenoble's standards, it's quite a crowd.

This was last week, on January 6th. 1,500 people according to the press.

On that day (and during following demonstrations), we shared cards - designed by a friend - with Refaat Alareer's poem. Our cards were in French, but here is the English version we also printed.

That was on December 9th. Big demonstration despite the rain.

The previous week, on December 2nd. Freezing cold but we were there too.

28 October 2023, the second event and first proper demonstration after the French authorities were forced to let go by administrative courts. Very large and impressive for our standards. It was perhaps the largest demonstration we had in Grenoble, with several thousands of people.

This was October 21st. A gathering that was authorized ex post by the administrative court. It was an odd atmosphere, ending two weeks of attempts by the French government to prohibit any demonstration in support of Palestinians. After two surreal weeks, we won. We have not been silenced. We will continue raising our voice.
