Film: The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, silent horror movie directed by Robert Wiene

The Cabinet of Dr Caligari premiered 100 years ago! This monument of German expressionism tells the story of an insane hypnotist who uses a somnambulist to commit murders. The film features a dark and twisted visual style, sharp-pointed forms, oblique and curving lines, structures and landscapes, unusual angles, and shadows and streaks of light painted directly onto the sets.
