Trump shouldn't be the next president of the US. If people had any rationality he wouldn't be. He is a despicable human being, incapable of empathy, selflessness, decency, consistency or truth. The latter should disqualify him instantly in a country where perjury is often punishable by law and being found lying was a red card not so long ago. He has shown times and again he lacks the composure and sense of the common good that are necessary for the job.
Yet he may well be the next president of the US (POTUS). The reasons are plenty, but the freedom of speech understood as the freedom of lying is a sine qua non one. Entire media corporations dedicated themselves to lying to their viewers on a daily basis, for profit, rankings and for political gain of their heroes. They went unchallenged for years before Dominion put an end to lying-is-freedom-of-speech ruling the land. But not much has changed since then. Propagating lies is still the way some media outlets do business. Mostly those who support Trump. His being a champion of lies that seems only fitting.
Biden, on the other hand, is more of the classical politician type. He won square and fair last time over Trump. His Anti-palestinian policy is despicable and might well cost him some states in the election but that's not the point of this post. He probably has a lot of credit to garner for his other policies. But why did he, his staff and the top democrats decided to go for a second term?
It seems it started at the beginning of is presidency, when it turned out that the vice-president Kamela Harris was denied any political and mediatic space. Anyway, he and his staff, did not allow any democrats to rise to the position of potential candidate, no doubt preparing a second candidacy for Biden. Well, it's a shame, because now, no one seems able to jump in case of Biden being somehow incapacitated. None of those who directly supported a second Biden candidacy seem to have a backup plan.
Here already my American friends would jump in front of their screens and shout "look at Trump ! He is worse". Well, I wrote what I think of Trump, and I agree a second Trump term would be very bad for almost everybody but, possibly, himself. Worse than a second Biden term, for sure. But why did they think it was a good idea to have a rematch? Why limit us to these two options. Well, quiet possibly for the same reason I think it was a very bad idea: no sane person would vote for trump on his merits (of which he has none I can see).
So, since it was hoped that voters couldn't chose Trump on Election Day, Biden as many others would win over Trump. So, let us push a Biden second candidacy whatever his approval rate, image, possible medical problems might be. My reasoning for long has been that, if Trump was unelectable, it was a great moment to promote a younger, fitter, better liked, more able, democratic candidate. The exact opposite of what Biden and his supporters did in this situation. I am not an insider, I cannot tell you what their discussions were, but it looks very much like each of them and collectively though: "let's try and keep our jobs, our influence, our power and importance". Quiet a few of them might even have thought that with Biden's possibly diminishing abilities they could end up with more power and influence. Hence this very odd campaign between someone how should never have been allowed to be president and is clearly a danger for the country, and a outgoing president who appears to have health issues and memory lapses. There again my American friends would jump in and shout "But Trump...", but that is not the point, is it. The point is that for selfish reasons those in power decided to run Biden a second time when they should have seized the opportunity to improve the odds and the future by passing the beacon to a better candidate.
I do not believe that Biden will be able to run a usual, very tiring campaign. I do not believe that he will be fit enough to be the most efficient president in his second term. My American friends refuse to see the facts and the signs. Well his handling of Israel war on Gaza is a very obvious sign. Bad decisions, lies, bad international influence, reject of a ceasefire, more lies, deeds contradicting the sometimes self-contradicting discourse, more bad decisions, clear and high-level complicity in the Israeli made massacre and famine in the Gaza strip. That is a self-made political and maybe legal mess he has put his administration in (and the world).
When Biden forgets, mistakes, makes outrageous statements, fails to realise the obvious (e.g.: eating ice-cream while announcing an imminent yet still to come cease-fire is very poor judgement), he does not shows himself in the position of running a campaign or the US for 4 more years. It is that obvious, my dear American friends, Biden is not the fittest person for the job today and he won't be tomorrow. A good state of the union speech will not change this fact. So it was a quite big mistake to chose him as a candidate, not least because many other democrats stood a better chance to win. That terrible blunder is Biden's, his staff's, leading democrats' and theirs only.
My dear American friends, you can not blame future voters for this selfish decision. You cannot blame those doubting Biden's abilities nor those revolted by his complicity in war crimes for this strategic error. Running again was Biden's huge mistake. You cannot put the blame on people who do not see how they could vote Biden but will never vote Trump. If Trump is elected, Biden will have no one to blame but himself and his powerful backers. He has turned a tactical advantage into a possible strategic disaster.
