BOABOOKS
Izet Sheshivari
Could you please present yourself and your activities?
Boabooks was founded in 2007 by Izet Sheshivari in Geneva, Switzerland. Using the experience in adapting a project to a specific format — artwork/exhibition and reproduction/editing — I developed Boabooks as an art editor for various types of collaborations between artists and all those involved in the process of editing an art book, so many stuff…
From the beginning of my training as a graphic designer, I gauge the importance of research as an engine of thinking. Setting up an autonomous structure to refine and clarify some personal questions and concerns about the book as a medium. This idea came from my experience when working at the same time on graphic design commissions and on my own artistic practice both in which the issue of adapting the format is central. With Boabooks, my purpose is to reduce the distance between an artwork and its variation or its reproduction in the format of the book.
What about the aspects of artistic independence and financial autonomy?
If I will do a books about this topic (and I do) it will be called “Rapport de Famille”…
What about the “author/graphic designer/printer/publisher/distributor complicity” in such editorial projects?
I think I allready answer to this question in the presentation, but for short, without thoses complicity there is no interest to work on art books, or anythink.
You could also do a “Rapport d’activité…” has a designer, and that the same issu, to do a great job you should add more complicity in all the activities you start and the people involved into: if you are honest you will have more interest into it.
What about DIY/ Home Made / Tradition and technical aspect in your practice?
Sometime, I enjoy to think has an craftman, regarding the project of book I work for, not to steel a “savoir faire”, but I like to feel the limit of the system I’m working with, to know it more efficienty.
Why should I answers to the sames questions to others publishers: making books is a way to answering questions and more interesting you can also asking.
