En 2021, Lobanov va jusqu’à se présenter comme député à la Douma d’Etat contre un proche de Poutine. Il emporte les élections, obligeant le régime à inventer des voix électroniques pour son concurrent.
Il est le premier à organiser une campagne pour libérer Azat.

L’engagement déterminé de Lobanov lui a valu à plusieurs reprises de la part des autorités russes menaces, harcèlement, emprisonnement, violences physiques, brimades professionnelles jusqu’à destitutions de son poste au MGU. Son courage, sa droiture, sa simplicité et sa loyauté lui ont attaché l’admiration de ses collègues qui l’ont défendu à plusieurs reprises.
Le 29 décembre 2022, Lobanov est arrêté comme un terroriste en raison de son opposition à la guerre : à 6h du matin, les forces spéciales de sécurité découpent à la meuleuse la porte de son appartement, le jettent au sol, le frappent au sang, puis l’arrêtent pour « rébellion aux forces de l’ordre ».
Une campagne internationale est menée qui le libère le 13 janvier 2023.

Je voudrais exprimer ma reconnaissance dans toutes les langues du monde pour votre solidarité à la suite des événements du 29 décembre, lorsque la police a forcé l’entrée de mon appartement. Cette solidarité m’a accompagnée tous les jours de ma détention.
Je suis infiniment reconnaissant à chaque personne et à chaque organisation qui m’a soutenu en détention par une publication, une lettre ou une déclaration. Ces gestes ont augmenté les chances que la machine répressive de l’état poutinien desserre ses griffes de fer — au moins pour un instant. Je suis maintenant libre. Merci !
Pendant ma détention, ma femme Alexandra me reproduisait de mémoire vos lettres et déclarations, qui m’ont aidé à tenir le coup. J’ai eu le sentiment croissant que la résistance était possible et qu’elle n’était pas inutile.
Pour moi qui suis né, qui vis et qui lutte en Russie, il est très important que des syndicats, des initiatives citoyennes et des milliers de personnes m’aient soutenu à l’intérieur de mon pays.
Pour le militant socialiste et attaché aux valeurs démocratiques que je suis, il était tout aussi important que de nombreuses personnalités et organisations dans d’autres pays se soient mobilisées pour exiger ma libération. En ces temps difficiles pour notre monde, des centaines de personnes ont eu le courage, le temps et la force d’exprimer leur solidarité à l’égard d’un militant politique en Russie.
Chaque expression de solidarité internationale est pour nous très impressionnante et nous donne confiance. A nos yeux c’est même la meilleure réponse que l’on puisse opposer aux inégalités économiques et politiques criantes qui déchirent notre monde, et qui engendrent les dictatures menant aux répressions et aux aventures militaires.
Je vois aujourd’hui combien les gouvernements et les services de renseignement de tous les pays du monde cherchent à nous diviser. On veut nous enfermer dans la cage des « États-Nations ». On essaie de nous attacher en nous tenant par les « intérêts nationaux ». Le régime de Poutine a particulièrement réussi dans ce domaine. A l’heure où les gens meurent en Ukraine, ici, en Russie, on jette en prison ceux qui ne sont pas d’accord avec la politique militariste agressive du Kremlin. De nombreuses personnes sont étiquetées « agents de l’étranger », perdent leur travail et leur droit à travailler.
Aujourd’hui ce sont tous les militantes et militants syndicaux, politiques, les défenseur·e·s des droits et les journalistes qui se retrouvent en danger. Tout notre pays est aujourd’hui en danger. Au final, la dictature dans un seul pays est une menace pour le monde entier.
Parfois on a l’impression qu’on ne peut rien y faire. Parfois la solidarité n’apporte aucun résultat visible. Moi-même j’ai plusieurs fois participé à des campagnes de solidarité, voire j’ai moi-même été à l’initiative de ces campagnes. Parfois nous avons réussi à sauver des personnes de la répression. Par exemple, il y a quelques jours un des leaders du syndicat «Courrier» Kirill Oukraiïntsev a été libéré grâce à un soutien international important. Parfois, comme c’est le cas du jeune mathématicien Azat Miftakhov, nous n’avons pas réussi à sortir le camarade de prison. Mais dans ce cas, notre solidarité est loin d’avoir été vaine et a même donné des résultats concrets. Par exemple, pour Azat, notre campagne a obligé la police et les services des renseignements généraux, à cesser toutes les pressions qu’ils exerçaient sur lui en prison. Enfin, il ne faut pas négliger combien notre campagne a également permis à Azat de ne pas craquer, et lui a offert, ainsi qu’à ses proches, confiance et espoir. Aujourd’hui, quand nous avons reçu des nouvelles alarmantes de la possibilité d’un nouveau dossier contre Azat, nous avons besoin d’activer une campagne de solidarité avec lui.
La solidarité fonctionne parce qu’elle redonne espoir à tous. L’espoir qu’un autre monde est possible. Un monde fondé sur le dialogue et l’entraide. Un monde sans guerres. Un monde offrant à chacun la possibilité de s’épanouir personnellement et professionnellement.

Я хочу сказать слова благодарности на всех языках мира за ту волну солидарности, которая поднялась 29 декабря после того, как полиция ворвалась ко мне в дом. Она продолжалась все дни моего ареста.
Я бесконечно признателен каждому человеку и каждой организации, которые в эти дни постом, письмом или заявлением увеличивали шансы на то, что репрессивная машина путинского государства хотя бы ненадолго разожмет свои железные когти. Сейчас я на свободе. Спасибо Вам!
Александра, моя жена, во время ареста на свиданиях пересказывала мне ваши письма и заявления – они придавали мне сил. Они рождали надежду и ощущение того, что борьба и сопротивление возможны и не бесполезны.
Как для человека, родившегося, живущего и ведущего борьбу в России очень важно, что в мою защиту выступили профсоюзы, общественные инициативы и тысячи людей из моей страны.
Как для человека социалистических и демократических убеждений, ничуть не менее важно, что в других странах нашлось множество людей и организаций, которые требовали моего освобождения. В этих непростых для нашего мира условиях сотни людей нашли смелость, время и силы проявить солидарность с политическим активистом из России.
Каждое проявление интернациональной солидарности впечатляет и вдохновляет. Именно её и только её мы можем противопоставить вопиющему экономическому и политическому неравенству, которое разрывает на части наш мир, порождает диктатуры, ведет к репрессиям и военным авантюрам.
Я вижу, что сегодня чиновники и спецслужбы всех стран мира стараются разделить нас. Нас загоняют в клетки «национальных государств». Пытаются посадить на цепь «национальных интересов». Режим Путина особенно в этом преуспел. Пока в Украине гибнут люди, здесь, в России бросают в тюрьмы не согласных с агрессивной милитаристской политикой Кремля. Многих – официально клеймят как иностранных агентов, лишают права на профессию.
В группе риска профсоюзные активисты, политики, правозащитники и журналисты. В группе риска вся страна. В конечном счете, мы видим, что из-за диктатуры в одной стране, в группе риска оказался весь мир.
Иногда из-за кажущихся неудач нам кажется, что мы ничего не можем. Иногда солидарность не имеет видимого результата. Я сам неоднократно участвовал и организовывал кампании солидарности. Иногда нам удавалось спасти людей от репрессии. Например, на днях благодаря широкой международной поддержке на свободу вышел один из лидеров профсоюза «Курьер» Кирилл Украинцев. Иногда, как в случае с молодым математиком Азатом Мифтаховым, спасти человека от тюрьмы не удавалось. Но на самом деле и в этих случаях наша солидарность не прошла зря и дала конкретные результаты. В случае с Азатом Мифтаховым она заставила полицию и спецслужбы прекратить давление на него в тюрьме, помогла ему не сломаться и дала надежду ему и его близким. Сегодня, когда появились тревожные новости о том, что силовики готовят новое дело против Азата, нам необходимо активизировать кампанию солидарности с ним.
Солидарность работает потому, что она дает надежду всем нам. Надежду, что другой мир возможен. Мир основанный на взаимопонимании и взаимопомощи. Мир без войн. Мир, в котором у каждого человека будет возможность творческой и профессиональной самореализации.

I wish I could thank you in every language of the world for the wave of solidarity that set into motion on December 29 after the police broke into my house. It rose and rose throughout the days of my arrest.
I am eternally grateful to every person and every organization that made my freedom possible through each social media post, letter, and statement. The repressive machine of Putin’s government has at least briefly loosened its iron claws. Now I am free. For that I thank you.
During my arrest, my wife Alexandra told me about your letters and statements – they gave me strength. They gave me hope and the feeling that our struggle is not in vain, that resistance is not futile.
As someone who was born in Russia, who lives and fights here, I am humbled and inspired that trade unions, community initiatives, and thousands of people from my country stand by me.
As a person of socialist and democratic convictions, I believe it is no less important that in other countries many people and organizations demanded my release. Under the difficult conditions we all face internationally, hundreds of people found the courage, time, and strength to show solidarity with a political activist from Russia.
Every manifestation of international solidarity impresses and inspires. It is only solidarity – and nothing else – that can counter the blatant economic and political inequalities that tear our world apart. Inequality leads to dictatorships, repression, and military adventurism.
I can see that officials and secret services of all the countries in the world are trying to divide us. They try to force us to stay confined within the cages of “nation-states”. They want to chain us down with “national interests”. Putin’s regime has excelled in this. While people are dying in Ukraine, those who disagree with the Kremlin’s aggressive militarist policies are imprisoned in Russia. Many are stigmatized officially as foreign agents and deprived of their right to practice their professions.
Union activists, politicians, human rights activists and journalists are at risk. The whole country is at risk. In the end, we see that because of the dictatorship in one country, the whole world is at risk.
Sometimes things that may look like failures make us feel like we can’t do anything. Sometimes solidarity has no visible result. I have participated in and organized solidarity campaigns time and time again. Sometimes we managed to save people from repression. For example, one of the leaders of the Courier trade union, Kirill Ukraintsev, was recently released thanks to the international solidarity campaign. Sometimes, as in the case of the imprisoned young mathematician Azat Miftakhov, we did not. But the truth is that even in those cases our solidarity wasn’t in vain, and had concrete results. In the case of Azat Miftakhov, it stopped the police and security services from exerting pressure on him in prison. It helped him stay strong and gave hope to him and his family. Today, with the disturbing news that security-service agents are building a new case against Azat, we need to intensify our campaign of solidarity with him.
Solidarity always works because it gives hope to all of us. Hope that another world is possible. A world based on mutual understanding and mutual support, a world without war. A world where every person has the opportunity for creative and professional fulfillment.
