In an interview broadcast on February 12th by public radio station France Inter, in an episode of its documentary series Affaires Sensibles which looked back at the creation of Mediapart, Mediapart, Edwy Plenel announced that he would be stepping down next month from his functions as its chairman and publishing editor, while continuing, as a journalist, to write for our online journal.
This important stage in the history of Mediapart had been prepared since a long time ago by its co-founders, Edwy Plenel, François Bonnet, Laurent Mauduit, and Marie-Hélène Smiejan, who carefully planned ahead for the moment they would pass the baton to a new generation in order to guarantee Mediapart’s enduring future. Following the safeguarding of its independence with the creation in 2019 of a not-for-profit structure, ring-fencing its capital within the Fonds pour une presse libre (Fund for a free press), along with the appointment in 2023 of Cécile Sourd as general manager, and the appointments, also last year, of Lénaïg Bredoux and Valentine Oberti as editorial co-directors, this process of succession will be completed on March 14th 2024.

Thursday March 14th: our yearly press conference
March 14th is the date of our traditional yearly press conference, during which Mediapart details its latest financial and operational results in what is a rare exercise in transparency among the media, and during which this year it will be announced who has been chosen to succeed Edwy Plenel as chairperson and publishing editor.
The press conference will be presented in a freely accessible video on our website and on Mediapart’s YouTube channel.
Saturday March 16th: the sixth Mediapart festival
Mediapart invites you to the sixth of our yearly one-day “festival” events, which will be held on March 16th at the Centquatre cultural centre in Paris (5 rue Curial in the 19th arrondissement), open to all from 11am to 7pm. Come and join in discussions with our teams and media partners about the issues that occupy us daily. Throughout the day there will be meetings, debates, exhibitions, screenings, signings, and also surprises!
