Understanding the journey towards the replacement of animal testing is a complex endeavour. To ease this path and make it accessible and entertaining for all, Altertox, a Brussels-based SME dedicated to promoting alternatives to animal testing, launches the very first serious game on the topic, the TATABOX.

The European Partnership for Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC), which is being launched on 12 May in Paris under the French Presidency of the European Union (EU), is seeking to develop next-generation chemical risk assessment, incorporating both human health and the environment in a “One Health” approach.

Le 24 avril est la Journée mondiale des animaux de laboratoire. Cette journée, suivie de la semaine des animaux de laboratoire, vise à promouvoir le remplacement des tests sur les animaux avec comme double objectif l’amélioration du bien-être animal et de la qualité de la recherche. Une occasion de faire le point sur les alternatives existantes ainsi que sur leurs développements prometteurs.

24th of April is observed across the globe as the World Day for Laboratory Animals. This day, followed by the Lab animal week, aims to promote the replacement of animal testing to improve animal welfare and the quality of research altogether. An occasion to review the current state of the art on existing alternatives to animal experiment and their promising developments.

Les députés européens voteront prochainement sur un texte important sur les methodes alternatives aux tests sur les animaux; une initiative plus que bienvenue pour 3 coordinateurs de projets financés par l'UE, car les tests sur les animaux sont trop longs pour évaluer la sécurité du nombre croissant de produits chimiques dont la toxicité est encore inconnue.

During the next Plenary session, MEPs will vote on an important text for non-animal testing. 3 EU-funded project coordinators welcome this initiative: animal testing is too long to enable the safety assessment of the growing number of chemicals whose toxicity is still unknown.

Il y a huit ans aujourd’hui entrait en vigueur l'interdiction des tests de produits cosmétiques sur les animaux, une décision plébiscitée à travers le monde. Pourtant, des tests sur des animaux sont requis par l'Agence européenne des produits chimiques sur certains ingrédients. Des organisations de protection animale exhortent l'Union européenne à mettre fin à ces tests.
